PALM SUNDAY (Luke 19: 28-44)

Big Idea: Jesus arriving in Jerusalem fulfilled prophecy- but most of the people misunderstood it.

1. The disciples had a certain expectation as to what Jesus would do when coming to Jerusalem. (See Luke 19:11) What was this expectation? Do you think they were wrong to expect this? Why or why not? How does the parable that Jesus told after this in verses 12-27 serve to change their expectation?

2. In what way do you think people misunderstand Jesus and his mission today?

3. What are the “things that make for peace” that Jesus was Jesus referring to in Luke 19:42. (see Romans 5:1-2, Ephesians 2:11-22

4. What is the significance of Jesus riding into town on a donkey? (compare John 12:14 -16, Matthew 21:2-5, Zechariah 9:9)

5. Compare the peoples’ words and actions in Luke 19:37-38 with those in Luke 23:18-25. What changed? Have you even noticed similar changes in your own attitude toward Jesus?
