Discussion Questions

  1. In Acts 5:11, Peter references Psalm 118:22. What is the meaning of this illustration?

  2. In Acts 4:2, why were the priests and Sadducees greatly annoyed with Peter and John? Why were they a threat to them? Tell about a time where someone was annoyed with you for speaking the truth about Jesus.

  3. Acts 4:13-14 outlines the situation from the viewpoint of the religious leaders. What factors stood out to them? What seemed to clinch their decision? Discuss what you think you/your small group/your church might look like to outsiders. What factors do you try to emphasize?

  4. In verse 17 the leaders decide on a plan. What do they see as the solution to keeping the news from spreading? Why this focus on a mere name? Read Acts 16:16-18; what did this name accomplish in that situation?

  5. We can learn a lot about a person or group by observing how they respond when threatened. Read Acts 4:23-30. What can we observe about their attitude toward resistance? How do they view those who oppose them? How do they respond? What do they pray for? How do you and the Christians you know respond when threatened?
