Philippians Week 5: Shine
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1) In Philippians 2:12, Paul tells Christians to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”. Does this teach the idea that a person is saved by their own work? How would you explain this?
2) Pastor Jason’s mother often quoted Philippians 2:14 when her kids needed the reminder. Besides being annoying, why are “grumbling and disputing” such a big deal? Take a look at 1 Corinthians 10:1-12.
3) According to Philippians 2:13, what part does God play in our growth as Christians? Can you recall a time when you sensed God give you strength to do what you couldn’t before? Or a time when you have seen him change your desires?
4) Holding on to our faith doesn’t necessarily feel heroic. Have you ever experienced a time when you felt like you were truly at the end of your rope? What did you hold fast to? Compare Philippians 2:16 with John 6:66-69.
