Philippians Week 2: It’s All Good
Sermon Discussion Questions:
"It's All Good" (Philippians 1: 12-26)
Big Idea: My perspective on Jesus determines my perspective on my circumstances
1. Look at Philippians 1:14. How did Paul’s imprisonment increase his fellow Christians’ confidence in the Lord? Why did they become much more bold as a result?
2. What did Paul’s rivals hope to gain from proclaiming Christ while Paul was imprisoned? (Philippians 1:17)
3. In Philippians 1:19, what does Paul see as the source of his deliverance? Does this verse inform your view of intercessory prayer?
4. Paul had been arrested for preaching the gospel and was in a Roman prison, potentially facing execution. Looking at his words in Philippians 1:21-22, what seems to be the ‘worst case scenario’ that he most wishes to avoid?
5. Paul’s words in Philippians 1:23 have been misconstrued as a devaluing of this life and a desire to die. Is Paul’s desire “to depart and be with Christ” a desire to escape the circumstances of life in the body? How would you describe Paul’s teaching on the purpose and value of this present life?
