Philippians Week 1: A Work In Progress
Sermon Discussion Questions:
A Work in Progress - Philippians 1: 1-11
Big Idea: By God’s grace Christians do not just begin- they continue to progress.
1) The story of Paul’s first visit to Philippi can be found in Acts 16. Looking at Paul’s experiences on his journey to Phillipi and his experiences there, why do you think Paul would be so confident of the God’s work in their lives?
2) Are we there yet? According to Philippians 1:6, when is a Christian “done”?
3) Why do you think Paul began the list in Philippians 1:9-11 with love? What happens if we skip this step?
4) In Philippians 1:1, Paul mentions overseers and deacons. Who are these people and what do they do? For info on overseers/elders, look at Acts 14:23, Acts 20:17-18; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; James 5:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4. Regarding deacons, look at Acts 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Why do you think Paul specifically mentions these groups at the beginning of his letter?
5) Philippians 1:9-11 describes the areas in which a Christian should be growing. What is the goal of a Christian’s progress in the faith?
